Dallas is no stranger to standout dining concepts, but every so often a place arrives that completely reshapes what going out to eat can look like. Ateliê By the Experience is exactly that kind of place. Located near downtown Dallas, this immersive concept blends a rotating art gallery, curated events, and globally inspired cuisine into one experience. If you have ever wished your dinner plans came with a little more atmosphere and artistic energy, Ateliê delivers in a way that feels both intentional and original.
The concept is led by Wyl Lima, a Michelin trained chef who cooks with freedom, creativity, and storytelling through food. Ateliê is not designed to fit into one category or cuisine. Instead, its menu is constantly rotating alongside the artwork inside. Every time guests walk in, the space invites curiosity as theres always something new to discover. Soft lighting, gallery walls, and a thoughtfully designed dining room set the tone for an evening that is a whole new experience.
The Food: A Global Story on Every Plate
One thing Chef Lima prides himself on is not being bound to tradition or expectation. As he explains, “I’m not bound to how I cook and what I want to say when I’m making the food. Ateliê is global fusion, we are not bound by any cuisine.” This approach reflects his upbringing and exposure to diverse flavors, which shaped his desire to share a global palate with everyone who steps foot into the restaurant.
The result is a rotating menu that feels dynamic yet cohesive. During our visit, the 12 item selection ranged from savory comfort dishes to refined desserts, each carrying its own personality while still working together as a collective dining experience. The menu is intentionally structured for sharing, encouraging guests to mix and match appetizers, main courses, and sweets to discover unexpected flavor combinations.
Standout dishes included a rich Wagyu pastrami melt and a delicate matcha cheesecake that offered a clean, slightly earthy finish to the meal. Two highlights that left a lasting impression were the roasted chicken with sweet plantains and the Hot Cheeto Dirty, both showcasing Lima’s ability to reinterpret familiar elements in surprising ways. Although the menu rotates regularly, the consistent creativity ensures that each visit offers something new while maintaining the same level of perfection.
The Art: A Living Gallery
Food may be the entry point, but art is equally central to the Ateliê identity. The restaurant functions as a rotating gallery space in partnership with Daisha Board, whose work transforms the walls into an evolving exhibition. Just like the menu, the artwork changes over time, giving repeat visitors fresh visual inspiration alongside new culinary discoveries.
The collaboration between Lima and Daisha began long before the restaurant opened. The duo hosted pop ups across Dallas in unconventional settings such as warehouses and plant shops, building a following that appreciated the fusion of art and dining. Lima shared, “I wanted to continue to foster the relationships between art and food. All of it is essentially just like a dialogue.” The comparison to dialogue feels fitting, as guests experience a continuous conversation between visual and edible creativity throughout their visit.
The Experience: More Than a Restaurant
Part of what makes Ateliê stand out is its commitment to programming beyond traditional service hours. The venue regularly hosts pop ups and collaborative experiences that extend its reach across the Dallas creative scene.
A signature event that draws significant attention is The Night Shift. Hosted after hours, this series transforms the restaurant into a nightlife inspired environment complete with live DJs, live music, and an intimate late night energy.
In addition to Night Shift, guests can also find weekend art classes, Latin themed nights, and other community focused gatherings. These unique programs allow guests to consistently engagement with Ateliê in many ways whether its though food, creativity, or music.
An Experience Worth Saving For
At Ateliê by the experience, pricing leans toward the upscale side, with most visits landing around $50+ per person. But what sets it apart is that you’re not just paying for a meal, you’re stepping into a carefully crafted, immersive dining experience that feels more like an event than a night out. From the artistic presentation to the thoughtfully designed courses, every detail is meant to feel special and memorable. Even if it’s outside your usual budget, Ateliê is the kind of place you need to visit at least once and its perfect for a celebration, a date night, or simply to treat yourself to something different.
