Fall Activities in DFW

Fall is one of our favorite times of the year. The leaves start to change, the sun isn’t blazing down for 12 hours a day, and there’s that perfect breeze in the air that makes sipping a hot coffee outside actually enjoyable. There’s just nothing like fall—even if it’s in the DFW area. Sure, our version of fall doesn’t officially show up until October, but we’ll take what we can get! Nothing’s stopping us from jumping headfirst into all the fall fun.

If you’ve been looking for things to do this season, we’ve put together a list of fall activities happening around DFW. From pumpkin patches to haunted houses—and of course the legendary State Fair—we’ve got you covered.

Pumpkin Fun

If you’re searching for the ultimate pumpkin experience, you’ve got to check out Pumpkin Nights in Arlington, TX. Picture this: 7,500 glowing pumpkins lighting up themed trails like Pirate Cove and Forbidden City. It’s magical and totally Instagram-worthy. Pumpkin Nights runs from September 19 – October 30, 2025.

More of a daytime pumpkin person? The Dallas Arboretum has you covered with Autumn at the Arboretum. With over 100,000 pumpkins and gourds on display, it’s basically pumpkin paradise. This one runs from September 20 – November 2, 2025.

And of course, if you’re looking to actually take a pumpkin home, head to Hall’s Pumpkin Farm in Grapevine. This family-owned farm has been around since 1929, and they’ve got it all: pumpkins, a corn maze, and hayrides. It’s open from October 3 – October 31, 2025—a must for a classic fall outing.

The State Fair of Texas

Let’s be real—fall in DFW wouldn’t be complete without the State Fair of Texas. It’s not just a local tradition; it’s one of the biggest events in the state. Every year, people come from all over to enjoy the food, rides, games, and entertainment.

You already know we’ll be there, and you better believe we’re making a stop at Dickel’s Smokehouse for their Triple Meat Big Back Snack. It was a highlight last year, and it’s calling our name again. The fair runs from September 26 – October 19, 2025 at Fair Park in Dallas. Trust us—you don’t want to miss it this year. The food lineup looks even better than before!

Festivals & Local Events

Looking for something a little more local? Head to Western Days in Lewisville, happening September 26 – 27, 2025. Think live music across six stages, food trucks, a tamale-eating competition, and plenty of Western flair.

If you’re craving a cultural experience (and maybe a giant pretzel or two), check out Oktoberfest Fort Worth at Panther Island Pavilion. This festival celebrates German culture with food, drinks, live music, and fun activities. It’s happening September 26 – 28, 2025, and it’s the perfect excuse to grab your friends for a fall weekend out.

Spooky Season

For those who love a good scare, you’ll want to brave Cutting Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth. It’s Guinness-certified as the largest haunted house in the world, and it’s not for the faint of heart. They’ll be open all October long.

Another classic is Six Flags Fright Fest in Arlington. Expect haunted mazes, creepy shows, and surprises lurking around every corner. Fright Fest runs on select dates from September 12 – November 2, 2025.

Denton Halloween Town

Last but definitely not least—Denton Halloween Town. This event is becoming a fan favorite, and it’s coming back this year with even more spooky fun. Think coffin races, pumpkin drops, haunted tours, and plenty of family-friendly activities during the day and night. Events will run throughout October 2025, so keep an eye out for the full schedule.
